In many respects, The Rector’s House is holiday accommodation perfection in the north of Wales. The exteriors? A bright Georgian stone face strung with climbing vines smiles down on a garden spotted with mature trees and rung with bushes. A circular pond abounds with water lilies and reeds, bird baths crown the lawn, a patio seating area enjoys warm summer evenings with al-fresco fine dining and an isolated park bench honours the blissfully still country air in the mornings, accompanied only by birdsong. The views? Vast and varied, they span the whole spectrum of terrain in the region, from glistening waters down on Llyn Tegid, tranquil woods and fields painting the valleys in a rich green, up to grey humpbacked mountains far on the horizon. The interiors? Contemporary furniture set against a backdrop of tradition and old-world charm. The living room sets a homely tone with cream colours, elegant décor, great draped windows and a grand open fire. Combining a bright and lively dining room set on dark wooden flooring, charming farmhouse-style kitchen/diner fitted with a Rayburn, lavish bedrooms and a super swanky bathroom upstairs, the property truly caters for all manner of holidaymakers. Throughout the house period paintings, antiques and busts support the heritage of this Grade II listed building, when it was home to the rector of Llangower’s old ancient chapel built back in the 13th century. Beautifully restored whilst retaining its fundamental character, the house now stands as testimony to the owner’s meticulous work in creating a holiday home like no other in a sublime location. For larger groups, the house couples with the adjoining cottage to sleep parties of up to 12.Situated on the southern edge of the Snowdonia National Park, The Rectors House makes a convenient base for outdoorsy types wanting to explore the region. Characterised by rugged mountains and rolling hills right down to pristine beaches on the coast, the landscape gives rise to a wealth of activities, from walking and cycling to sailing and sunbathing. The property is just 200 yards from Llyn Tegid, the largest lake in Wales, and the nearby market town of Bala is home to many a fine pub and restaurant, supermarket, butcher, baker and independent shops of fine curio. The towns of Dolgellau, Barmouth and Porthmadog on the coast are also not to be missed.
This elegant, Georgian house has a light, homely feel about it and makes a comfortable retreat, whether for a main holiday or a relaxing short break. Much attention has been paid to the detail of the restoration of the house, so as to preserve the property’s features whilst providing the comforts of modern-day living.
